This painting depicts the miraculous calming of the storm and waves when Jesus sailed on the Sea of Galilee with his apostles. His apostles were mostly Galileans and some were fishermen, so they were familiar with the waters of this sea, yet they were panicked for their lives by the violent tempest.

Jesus asks, "Why are you terrified, have you no faith?" He then commands the waters to be calm. The lines of the accompanying psalm, written musically below the scene, implore, "Show us your power, Lord, restore the earth." We plea desperately in our panicked lives for deliverance. We must remember to have faith that all is well, the Lord is with us and his plan will run its course regardless of the raging storms around us.
